IN THE VALLEY OF SPITI FOR CB-14     The team at Base Camp Mt. Chandra Bhaga-14, located centrally in the Lahaul Massif of Himachal Himalayas offers a magnificent view of Kunzum Range, Chandra Taal Lake, and the Dhaka Glacier. With the unexplored and inaccessible valleys of the Chandra Bhaga Range and the calmness of Chadra Taal Lake, the CB-14 is one of the most attractive climbing peaks. With prior experience and sound knowledge of mountaineering, one can prepare himself to climb the summit. A ten member team was selected for this mission by Nature & Trekkers' Club of Jalpaiguri (NTCJ).  This time too I was given the responsibility to lead the team.  Five of them were experienced climbers while rest were beginners. The aim of the programme was to explore the area, gain experience of high altitude & to give exposure to fresher of the club. Climbing in the Himalayas is always challenging & it is a test of one’s skill, mental endurance & good planning. My first tas

Himalayan Kingdom NEPAL - Himali Thapa Das ‘The antique charm of Kathmandu is unshakeable’. This is the thought that came to my mind after my recent visit to the capital of the Himalayan kingdom after a decade had passed since my prior visit. The devastating earthquake and the political upheavals had not lessened the ‘awe’ effect that the place has on visitors. Starting from the traditional welcome at Tribhuwan international airport till the farewell dinner it was an enchanting experience. The major landmarks of Kathmandu, Pashupati Nath Temple and the Swayambhunath Stupa are both robust places which are with no doubt an anthropology hub. An early morning visit to the Pashupati Nath temple is in the itinerary of majority of the tourists. The flower sellers at the entrance showed a peculiar sense of trust on the devotees. You choose your basket offer prayers and pay on your way back. Quite impressive! I tried my best to take a sneak photograph of the interiors of th

Trekking and Climbing opportunities in East & Northeast India

Image
Trekking and Climbing opportunities in East & Northeast India      India’s northeast region is a paradise for adventure lovers, if explored in the right way. The region has landscape suitable for land, air & water based adventure activities. It offers great mountains, rivers and valleys, dense forests rich in flora and fauna.   Anthropologically the region is noteworthy for its people with their ancient culture which is an additional attraction for the visitors. The region is still largely unexplored hence the land is a new destination for adventure lovers. There are many attractive trekking routes where one can get immersed in the wilderness of the Himalayas. Most of the trekking routes are less populated therefore cleaner in comparison to other regions. The routes offer variety suitable for beginners as well as experienced trekkers. However to organize a trek in these routes one need to handle logistics carefully and arrange for tents, sleeping bags, mattres
