Trekking and Climbing opportunities in East & Northeast India

India’s northeast region is a paradise for adventure lovers, if explored in the right way. The region has landscape suitable for land, air & water based adventure activities. It offers great mountains, rivers and valleys, dense forests rich in flora and fauna.  Anthropologically the region is noteworthy for its people with their ancient culture which is an additional attraction for the visitors. The region is still largely unexplored hence the land is a new destination for adventure lovers.

There are many attractive trekking routes where one can get immersed in the wilderness of the Himalayas. Most of the trekking routes are less populated therefore cleaner in comparison to other regions. The routes offer variety suitable for beginners as well as experienced trekkers. However to organize a trek in these routes one need to handle logistics carefully and arrange for tents, sleeping bags, mattresses, kitchen utensils, rations, porters etc. An experienced guide is always an added advantage.

As far as mountaineering is concerned the region offers great summits with challenging altitude which is always sought by climbers. Indian’s highest mountain Mt. Kanchenjunga is situated here. There are many attractive peaks of which many are unclimbed till date.

The region shares boarders with other countries like; Tibet (China), Myanmar, Bangladesh, Bhutan & Nepal therefore from the security point of view the region is sensitive hence one needs to get permission from the government to climb any peak or undertake any trek. This process becomes easier if an authentic travel agent or a tour operator based in the region is entrusted to handle the legalities and logistics.
